Wendron Stoves Ltd gains MCS Accreditation

December 10th, 2010 Posted in Biomass Boilers, Publicity, Uncategorized |

We are pleased to announce that we have now gained the prestigious MCS (Micro-generation Certified Scheme) approval for installation of biomass boilers. There are only about 100 companies throughout the UK with this specific biomass boiler approval and only a few based here in Cornwall.   Our future customers who have one of our high quality biomass boilers installed will qualify for the proposed Government Feed In Tarriff payments.

Here is an excerpt from the Microgeneration Certification Organisation website outlining the benefits of MCS.

The Certification Mark For Onsite Sustainable Energy Technology

The MCS was devised specifically to help build a rapidly
growing microgeneration industry based on quality and
reliability. This industry makes a substantial contribution
to cutting the UK’s dependency on fossil fuels and its
carbon dioxide emissions. MCS underpins government
policies on low carbon and renewable onsite energy
technologies and supports the Low Carbon Buildings
Programme grants programme.
To ensure that the consumer is protected and that
government money is well spent, grants are only available
to applicants whose products and installers satisfy
rigorous criteria in three key areas:
product certification involves type testing of products
and an assessment of the manufacturing processes,
materials, procedures and staff training
installer certification entails assessing the supply,
design, installation, set-to-work and commissioning of
microgeneration technologies
consumer protection is maintained in that all sellers/
suppliers of microgeneration systems are signed up to
a Code of Practice set by the Office of Fair Trading.

Editorial in “Cornwall Today”

November 9th, 2009 Posted in Publicity |

We are pleased to announce that a full page article will soon be published in Cornwall Today outlining a recent interview Nathan had with a member of the magazines editorial staff. It makes for an interesting read and certainly describes the range of products and services we at Wendron Stoves are capable of providing. Make sure you get your copy of Cornwall Today  which will soon be  in the shops.

Here is the article.

Homemaker

Interview by Jane Reynolds as appeared in Cornwall Today Magazine December 2009.

Wendron Stoves have been supplying and fitting woodburners in Cornish homes for more than 25 years.  Managing Director Nathan Ward reveals that it’s a desire for cheap, green energy that’s driving sales these days.

“What sort of service do you offer at Wendron Stoves?

We are able to take customers through from the design stage right the way through to installation and commissioning using our own qualified HETAS engineers. We’ve fitted literally thousands of stoves throughout Cornwall. Customers come here for a bespoke service. We help them beyond simply choosing their appliance. We take the whole room into account and can remodel fireplaces, surrounds, lintels and hearths to compliment the woodburner itself.

Who is your typical customer?

A high percentage of our business comes either through personal recommendation or as repeat customers. We also work with a number of major house builders including Rosemullion Homes and Cathedral Builders. The National Trust are also customers. This very broad range reflects the fact that woodburners work well in a wide variety of settings, whether the home is traditional or new-build.

What has been this seasons favourite model?

The new Jotul F470 series is a very contemporary stove with a guillotine door. With a 6-9 kilowatt output it suits most living rooms, particularly in modern properties. We’re also very excited about being the sole Cornish supplier for Chesney’s traditional woodburners which are endorsed by the National Trust.

What about future trends?

We’ve come full circle. When the business started we supplied farmers with robust stoves to burn up the Dutch Elm they’d had to fell. Those houses had no central heating and woodburners did the job. Now with environmental concerns,  rising energy prices and a move away from a throwaway society we’re again looking at wood being a primary heat source. With this in mind customers want to run central heating systems off back boilers connected to their stoves. They can even add solar into the mix.

What about larger, older Cornish properties?

Yes, they are notoriously leaky and expensive to heat. But here at Wendron Stoves we stock and fit modern, highly efficient pellet, log or woodchip-fired biomass boilers which can produce up to 200kw of heat. They provide economic, reliable , long term and locally-sourced energy. Something that size could heat a school let alone an old farmhouse.

So do woodburners work as well in new properties?

Definitely. We find that any new house will have a woodburner if only for the wonderful ambience it gives a room. There is a huge range of contemporary stoves on the market, especially from the German and Scandinavian manufacturers. With careful planning too a woodburner can provide far more than just the heat for a single room. It can easily produce enough heat to the radiators as well.

What combination do you have in your own home?

I’m just completing the installation of a 50kw log boiler which will work together with a pellet boiler to heat my home. I’ve also installed ten solar panels. My wife jokes that the project is my mid-life crisis, but I’m very excited by it!

What can we see in your showroom?

We have dozens of models on display from our range of fifteen or so different makes of domestic woodburner.  We can also show you our boilers, and if you want to see one in operation you can just pop next door to my house where I’m only too happy to show it off! We thoroughly researched the market before going with the German manufacturer HDG Bavaria, which we believe is the best and most reliable biomass boiler there is.

Is there a good range of products readily available as fuel?

We stock a full range of pellets, kiln dried wood and firelogs and can arrange deliveries too. I’m really excited as well that Rawnsley Woodland Products at Victoria will shortly be producing wood pellets and briquettes from Cornish grown timber.”
